DIANA TIXIER HERALD, former Popular-Materials Librarian, now writes, consults, and presents at conferences. She runs the non-profit Center for Adolescent Reading and has been a member of YALSA since 1987. She has served on the Fantasy Genre and Best Books for Young Adults committees, and the Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers Committee as both member and Chair. Currently, she is an elected member of the 2005 Printz Award committee, and also a YALSA Serving the Underserved trainer. Diana has spent the last two years camping on the edge of a canyon at 7,000 ft. altitude with her husband while building a house made of tires, bottles, cans, and earth, claiming it was the only way to extricate themselves from foster parenting after a dozen years and 70 or so teenagers. An avid life-long reader, she reads in excess of 400 books a year.
